I signed Pacing the Frontier, a statement from employees of frontier AI companies:

We request that the U.S. government support an international effort to develop the technical and governance tools needed to deliberately pace the frontier of automated AI development.

I’m skeptical an agreement like this ever gets made, because coordination is hard. But it matters that people say plainly where they stand, and it’s moving to see colleagues I respect, friends at other labs, people I’ve argued with, all pointing the same way.
